Researcher and Analyst in Microsoft 365 Copilot

Microsoft introduces two innovative reasoning agents for the workplace: Researcher and Analyst. These agents can securely and compliantly analyze large volumes of information from organizational data—including emails, meetings, documents, chats—and also web content, to deliver expert-level answers and insights whenever needed.
 

Researcher

Researcher supports complex, multi-step investigations, offering insights with a level of detail and accuracy previously unattainable. It combines OpenAI’s advanced research model with the search and orchestration capabilities of Microsoft 365 Copilot. It can be used, for example, to:

• Develop a go-to-market strategy based on internal data and web information;
• Discover new business opportunities using trends and company data.
• Prepare comprehensive quarterly reports for client meetings, including work summaries and the latest market analysis.

Researchers can also integrate external data sources via connectors, further enriching insights, and can collaborate with other agents, such as Sales Chat.
 

Analyst

Analyst acts as a true data scientist, enabling users to go from raw data to insights in minutes. Powered by OpenAI’s o3-mini reasoning model and optimized for advanced data analysis in a work context, Analyst employs chain-of-thought reasoning to solve problems step by step, refining answers until it reaches high-quality conclusions similar to human analytical thinking. It can also execute Python code to answer more technical questions and allows users to view both the code and results in real time. 

Researcher and Analyst are available to customers with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license as part of the new Frontier program, which offers early access to Copilot innovations still in development.
